The concept was to generate through the envelope an urban scale landmark that is not only a visual sign, but a real urban mark that has enough force for gathering public. The design has a special symbolic power by the indirect use of the old symbol of the Piraeus harbor – the lion (the statue that is currently in Venice).
The pavilion is thought as being a simple gesture, natural in a dense context. For generating a beacon in a crossing node of the scale of the Victoriei Square, we didn’t design an object but a stage. We folded the stage in order to generate a vertical dynamic and thus we generated the amphitheater pavilion that strives to gather the people walking by. We count on the daily passengers to participate in the spatial modeling of the place.
The system of generating the urban surface is simple, based on integrating the directions settled by the accesses of the houses and by the ownership limits and translating them in the urban paving organization.
The term FLUX is included in the proposal of the project as a generating guideline. The new design is created by cuts in the built mass that open views towards the sea and direct the traffic. Considering as main connection nodes the street of Osjecka and the circulation artery from the neighboring housing district to the south, we determined the main circulations on site and the “islands” in between them consisting of built volumes and green areas.
The territorial development schemes follow a minimum impact rule of intervention within the natural features of the site, and use reversibility and ecology principles.
