This project is an answer to the national competition of urban planning and design – URBAN IMPLANT – regarding the remodeling of the Socola Blv. in Iasi, Romania. The aim of the competition was to generate a contemporary multi-use building that should redefine the urban presence, the functional structure and the circulation paths of the site.
The main theme is that of a funnel that opens towards the garden-park and the fortress of Deva and closes towards the outer circulation belt of the city.
The preexistent space of the apartment, well configured, spacious and opened on every side, remains almost untouched and becomes a support for the furniture.
The project resides on a series of local small sized interventions, executed in separate phases and in distinct locations within an existing shopping center that was built in totally different stages. The concept has a general application in what regards chromatic and formal language that endows the recent interventions with unitary character.
The design is modeling the pedestrian path along a narrow street in the center of the city, altering the flat floor by tilting it slightly and inviting the visitors to visit the two spaces in which the student events occur.
